People and women especially the world over constantly ask, what is the secret to beautiful sort younger looking skin. The reason for this question is that the skin tells a story of hardship, and age. The young are blessed with soft and supple skin, after all apart from not having grey hairs their skin condition is what makes young people look young.
Unfortunately we cannot stop the aging process, but we can stop premature damage that results in an aged look for our skin. My top 3 tips (in no particular order) for keep a youthful looking skin for as long as possible. 1. Health eating. You are what you eat. Eating too much high fat processed foods is not good for your skin. High fat can create excess oil in the skin. Additionally extra fat in the diet (if not used as energy) is stored by the body, as fat of course. This stretches the skin, and when the fat is lost it will leave wrinkles. The other macro nutrient to watch out for is too much protein. Athletes and those wanting bigger muscles will always try to eat an excess of protein. But to create a youthful look in you skin for the long term protein can be a disadvantage. This is because you body uses protein to replace its cells. The more protein, the the quicker the body can create new cells to replace the old. This may sound good until you realise that as new cells are created they are not always created as a direct copy, there are slight differences, and this contributes to ageing, or the aged look if you prefer. So I short watch out for too much fat and too much protein in the diet. 2. Sun protection. The second factor in premature aging of the skin is overexposure to the sun. The sun will break down the protection of the skin, and excess sun leads to sun burn and premature skin shedding, as per protein skin replacement above. Additionally the sun can leave minor scarring from dryness, unable to be seen with the naked eye. Over time this will deteriorate the younger look to your skin. If going outside it is always recommended to slip slop and slap. 3. Moisturise. Rounding out the top three best tips for a younger looking skin is to keep the skin from drying out. This is probably the most well know skin treatment tip so I will not go into too much detail here. The thing is moisturises will vary, and they all make great claims. The moisturised industry is big business, and they charge big dollars too. With so much research and development on moisturisers over the years, even the cheaper products have the benefit of technology on their side. I have always found that a higher price does not always equal better results. I use cheap moisturisers; the secret is to make sure I apply a minimum of twice per day. Additionally I drink lots of water, i try to drink at least 4 litres worth every day. Yes I am constantly going to the toilet but that is good for both inner health and my skin. Dehydration effects the skin greatly, so don’t let your skin, or your insides dry out if you want to retain that young glow in your skin. It dawned on me the other day as i was reflecting on the advice i had just received from my local dermatologists, that many of my friends leave their skin treatments to operators from the beauty industry.
I must admit i have attended many a beauty salon many times myself in the past, and still do for certain things. But when it come to truly understanding what is happening to my skin there is no beating the treatment and advice that a trained dermatologist can provide. I didn't know this until recently but dermatologists are actually trained doctors. Once obtaining their medical degree these doctors then specialise in skin, hair, and nails. It is a very specific practice that takes a lot of study. Its probably not much for anyone to consider the difference in treatment and advice that you can get from a doctor, as opposed to someone with a beauticians certification. Don't get me wrong beauticians have their place, but i don't listen to their advice when my eczema starts playing up. I go straight to my dermatologist for help with that, and if anyone reading this has a skin condition i encourage you to do the same. Last time i saw my dermatologist we got to talking, as you do. She complimented my on my general appearance and noted that i obviously take care of myself. We ended up chatting about about some procedures she was performing, and she was telling me that beauty salons perform similar treatments, but cannot offer the same care. She stopped short of telling me she consulted on some poor treatments, (i think that is somewhat unethical for a doctor) but that was the message she was trying to give me. People offering skin treatments, which can very easily go wrong without the proper knowledge. Anyway the moral of this story is to make sure you get the right advice from someone you know you can trust. For me i will trust a dermatologist over a beautician every day of the week. My dermatologists is one of the best dermatologists i have found in Pretoria. I probably pays off to research a bit for the right one, after all you are sharing your concerns with them and have to be comfortable. Also i have found a few dermatologists in my local area in South Africa are very busy. In my mind it always pays to research if a dermatologist (or any service provider for that matter) is too busy, you might not get the quality of attention you need. I don't want to be rushed through a consult about my health. Good luck, and good health to you. Celebrities are easy to target for bad Botox jobs. They have the money, the fame, and are in an industry that pays them to always look good. So its no surprise many turn to plastic surgery to keep that youthful appearance. Any hey, no one is interested if your next door neighbour nobody gets a bad dose of Botox. Right? There are a few people on this page, that you can forgive a little for their age, and they have given us consumers so much entertainment for watching them on the big and small screens. Somehow, we can't help but think that a lot of these celebrities should just know that they should not try to alter their body, protect their skin, and age gracefully. Yes there are plenty more examples we could look at, but the point is what value is plastic surgery. Real beauty comes from within. If you have fair coloured skin, there is a very good chance you will burn very easily in the sun. You will also be more prone to irreversible skin damage by the sun, if you don’t take the proper precautions. Freckles, sun spots, leathery skin, and early onset of wrinkles, are the least of worries for those with lighter skin. The big danger is skin cancer in its many forms. It can be triggered but very few exposures to damaging ultraviolet light, it does show up immediately and that’s what makes it dangerous. Thinking you can run the gauntlet but getting a tan and over doing it, on the odd occasion catches up with you fast. |
